Montana Mountaineering Association
is proud to offer the Junior Mountaineering Team
Program. Marking its fourth season, this free
program provides high school students with an
opportunity to begin a life-long apprenticeship
of alpine climbing. The goal of this program is
to give enthusiastic kids the tools they need
to explore their local mountains and the adventures
that lay beyond: to make them alpinists. The team
meets for nine months out of the year and covers
topics such as: knots, harnesses, ropes, anchors,
belaying, rappelling, rock climbing, ice climbing,
backcountry travel, and self rescue. Trip planning
and logistics are also covered in preparation
for an extended climbing trip in the summer.
